Cleveland State College Credit Plus Information
Hello everyone, my name is Amanda Zacher. I am here to talk to you about Cleveland State University and our college credit plus program. Umm, I'm going to give you a little brief overview of CSU and then talk about our admissions requirements for CCP, how to apply our deadlines, umm, what to do after you apply, uh, what to do after you've been admitted and then.
Umm, just finish with our contact information for CCP. So if you do have any questions at the end of this presentation, our e-mail address will be up on the, uh, screen. Please don't hesitate to reach out via e-mail and uh, myself or one of our other team members will be happy to reach out or to answer any of your questions.
So, as I mentioned, just a brief overview of CSU, umm, currently CSU has about 14,000 students and we are a medium sized institution. Umm, but even though we are medium sized and we uh, do have the largest footprint in downtown Cleveland, what's really nice is we do have an average class size of about 26 and our student to faculty ratio is about 16 to 1. Umm, So, uh, we do have a large field to CSU, but umm, it's still a really nice.
Small environment umm, there's lots to do here. We have over 200 student organizations, UH-15, NCAA Division one athletic teams, umm, and umm, just a really nice rec center that you get to take advantage of if you're CCP student umm, so I really do recommend getting involved if you're here at CSU. Umm and then we were founded in 1964 when the state of Ohio purchased Fenn College and since then we've graduated over 145 students and.
There's another little fun fact that's not on this slide. About 80% of our students do remain in Northeast Ohio, So chances are you've interacted with the CSU alum, umm. So it's a really fun, cool dynamic to see that our alumni do like to stay around here, umm, in our community.
So now talking a little bit more about CSU and the CCP, umm, requirements. So what we're looking for to get you into the CCP program or College Credit Plus program, umm, you need to have an unweighted 3.0 GPA if you do not have SAT or ACT scores. Uh, we do not take the PSAT or any practice ACT scores and we do not take the ACCUPLACER.
Uh, for any math placement, umm, you need to have either the ACT or the SAT.
Umm, if you.
Do not meet that 3.0. So if you don't have any test scores you need to have an unweighted 3.0 to get into CSU for CCP.
If you don't have that 3.0, we're looking for a 2.3 GPA in either a 16 on the ACT or an 880 on the SAT.
There is a little bit of leeway that the state grants us if you have a 2.75 unweighted GPA and mostly As or BS in relevant high school coursework. Relevant high school coursework means college prep coursework, umm. So we're looking at Englishes and maths, uh, maybe some science coursework, umm, but it needs to be rigorous coursework, umm, as well. So those are what we're typically looking for.
Umm, for your admissions requirements.
You can also see here we are looking for some English placement, umm, or if you're looking to take English courses or math courses at CSU, there may be a placement test. Umm, So if you're looking to take English 101 and you don't have ACT or SAT scores, umm, you may need to take our English placement test. And then same with UH math, if you're looking to take a math course here at CSU, if you are taking a math class at your high school.
UMM, you should not need to take the math placement exam and same with English. If you're taking an English course at your high school, you will not need to take our English placement exam. So those are the only two exceptions to taking the UMM placement exams that you see listed here.
If you want to apply to CCP umm at CSU, you need to do our application umm, on our website itscsuohio.edu back slash CCP app umm, And then once you are filling out the application, you're going to need three different e-mail addresses as you're filling that application out. Umm And this is because as you see in this third box, we have three different forms that we're going to require. We need a student.
Mature content form. So you need your own e-mail address. We're going to need a parent guardian authorization form. So you're going to need your parent or guardians e-mail address, and then we need a counselor authorization form. So you need your school counselors e-mail address. Please make sure when you type these in, you type them in correctly. Umm, we can fix the emails, but it just makes it easier if you type them in correctly so that the emails get to them, umm, on time.
When your school counselor fills out their counselor authorization form, they will also upload an official high school transcript and so you don't need to worry about requesting that from them. They will get the request for your official high school transcript when they get the request to fill out your counselor authorization form.
Our application does have deadlines and so you need to be mindful of these. There is a deadline overall for CCP. There are two deadlines now. Umm, If you want to participate in both the well in the summer, fall and spring, umm, you need to submit your Intent to participate form by April 1st to the state of Ohio, umm.
If you're just looking to participate in the spring and you've missed maybe that April first deadline, they now have a November 1st deadline.
But.
For CSU, you need to submit to your application by one of these dates for the upcoming term. So we are looking for the spring term, which typically starts in January. You need to submit your application by November 15th. Our summer term, which typically starts in May, umm, we're looking for that application deadline. It will be around April 15th and then our fall term usually starts in August.
Umm, and that application deadline is June 15th?
The other thing to be mindful of is your school counselors may not work over the summer. So when you see that fall deadline is June 15th, you may want to talk to your school counselor about when they prefer that you submit that fall application by because they may not be working until June 15th. Umm. So just be mindful of that and talk to your school counselor.
After you apply, you're going to get an application portal that you have access to. Umm, you may not receive a PIN number right away. If you don't, you can request one from, uh, the application portal website, or you can e-mail the admissions e-mail and ask us to reset that for you. Umm, but you can monitor your application portal for updates, umm, and see what you're still missing. Umm, and here you can see the missing materials that students are typically missing.
Again, you don't need those test scores unless you are below that 3.0 GPA or if you don't want to take those placement tests and you know you have test scores, the ACT or SAT that will test you out of those UH required or those those courses.
Once we have all of your required materials, it should take us about two to three weeks to review everything and get you an admissions decision back once you have received a decision.
You will be.
Umm, you'll be admitted hopefully and then you will have some extra steps to complete. Umm, recently the state just required that all CS or all CCP students complete an orientation prior to be read prior to registering for courses. So you need to monitor your e-mail about an orientation. Our orientation is currently online. You just need to complete that and the quiz that is attached to that.
Umm, so that we know that you have completed it, you need to accept your offer of admission. This just lets us know to hold a spot for uh, CSU. There is a second mature content questionnaire that you need to do. If you remember back umm, when you were applying, you submitted a mature content form. You need to do a second one after being admitted.
Umm oh I have orientation on here twice. It used to be in person so you need to sign up for it and then you need it to attend it. It is now just an online on your own type orientation. So just make sure you complete the orientation.
Then you need to schedule an advising appointment if you are not taking.
Your courses at your high school. So if you are taking courses at your high school, don't worry about scheduling and advising appointment or an academic coaching appointment. We will. If you're taking your courses at your high school, we will be sure to schedule your classes for you with your school counselor. If you are taking your courses at CSU, make sure to schedule an academic coaching appointment.
And then make sure you obtain your books. Again, if you're taking the course at your high school, you can just obtain these through your teacher. If you're taking your courses at CSU, make sure you stop by the bookstore to pick up your books.
And then like I said, if you have any questions about CCP, umm, here at Cleveland State, you can contact us. Our e-mail is simpleitisjustccp@csuohio.edu. And if you want to reach out via phone, our number is there as well. Uh, we look forward to having you at CSU as a college credit plus student. And thank you so much for joining me today.
